Out of many, the Padmanabhapuram Palace is a beautiful historical monument that is situated in Padmanabhapuram of Kanyakumari District. It was the former capital city of the Kingdom of Travancore. Moreover, the ancient place can be easily accessed from Kerala. It is placed at about 50 km from Thiruvanathapuram and 20 km from Nagercoil.

History of the Palace

Established in 1601 AD, the Padmanabhapuram Palace was constructed by a ruler named Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal. This powerful ruler dedicated the entire palace to his family diety and renovation took place in the year of 1750. After some years, the capital of Travancore was shifted and the palace lost its recognition. Many tourists visit this ancient place as it holds the traditional Kerala architecture, sprawling complex and so on.
